I’ve seen Nanny McPhee before, so at first, I thought this was just the original film I had already watched and enjoyed. But it didn’t take long to realize this was something a bit different, and after watching, I understand why the ratings are what they are. The first movie worked well for both kids and adults, with a story that wasn’t dumbed down. This sequel, though, is definitely more for kids, with a lot of scenes that had me wondering what the writers were thinking—like the one with the pigs, which is just one example of many. Still, I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it. It was a fun, lighthearted watch, with a cast that didn’t so much act as they did just mess around and have a good time. ()
Surprisingly, not knowing the previous film with Nanny McPhee is not a particular retardant or redundancy in the audience's cooperation in forming active hypotheses about the true nature. And Maggie Gyllenhaal! And the pseudo-war stylization! ()
It's a terrible shame that it basically repeats what was presented in the first film. The story is actually the same; it's just a slightly different family, but that doesn't make it a second part of the film, just a copy. It's all the more sad because there are some interesting actors here. Unfortunately, even in this case, the fact remains that a repeated joke isn't really a joke. ()
