The German film The Black Abbot is ultimately more of a TV play for the viewer, which doesn't end badly, but the rest of it cannot be called a thrilling film. It lacks atmosphere, the black-and-white cinematography is simply unable to provide it on its own, and there are no plot elements that would shape the atmosphere. That’s too bad, because with a darker atmosphere it could have been more interesting. ()
