Lugubrious Finns Valto and Reino take to the road in search of coffee and vodka, without which their lives are not worth living. But their reveries are interrupted by the arrival of garrulous Russian Klaudia and Estonian Tatiana - who are clearly interested in the two men, despite the language barrier. But what are the chances of getting a response from men who prefer staring at vodka bottles to talking? (Artificial Eye)

angielski The Finnish view of life filmed to perfection which is actually a standard for this director. The humor in this movie might be too dry but despite this it is a true Finnish gem. ()

angielski A road movie about a moment of rock 'n' roll in a flood of grey. The road movie of two "wannabe" rockers, one of whom constantly sips coffee while the other drinks vodka by the bottle, is based on absolutely laconic humor. Mato Valtonen doesn't change his bear grimace even once (and yet his character is beautifully elaborate), Matti Pellonpää enjoys playing the childish poser Orimatillan Jymy, and the way he crams romantic sprawl into the Finnish equivalent of Bohuš Stejskal is amazing. It's actually a kind of Peculiarities of the National Hunt inside out, but much deeper in terms of character relationships. The austerity and distaste for flamboyant gestures is at its core the most proper rock 'n' roll I know. Kaurismäki's escape from the greyness of existence after many times, this time in a hardened comedy with less talking has such an inner drive that it messed me up. Quiet, the rockers are playing. ()
