22.11.63 (2016) (serial)

angielski Three and a half stars. James Franco, Sarah Gadon, the retro atmosphere and the first and last episode are great, but in the meantime I was quite bored here and there. The biggest flaw of King's novel, that is, the sprawl during Jake's teaching, was removed, but it was replaced by another flaw - the completely unnecessary character of Bill and the large amount of space the script devoted to him. Otherwise, I didn't mind the changes from the book.

Gdzie jest Dory (2016)

angielski "Hi, I'm Dory and I'm suffering from short-term memory loss." Like Toy Story 2, Finding Dory is a completely natural sequel that has stuck to the bar of the first film, knows the measure and does not exaggerate anything, has a bunch of ideas... It's just magical. Plus, Hank the octopus and Gerald the sea lion are such fantastic new characters!

Hra o královnu (1980)

angielski A big disappointment, so big that I feel like using the famous saying about making a whip out of... you know what. Karel Steklý did not manage to write or film Hra o královnu. The plot not only does what it wants with history, but it is also completely incomprehensible, the set design is rich at first sight, but at second glance the kitschy colorful costumes are particularly striking, and the music by Ladislav Štaidl is not the worst, but it doesn't fit. And then there is the "comic" duo of Václav Sloup and Václav Štekl, who all the time behave like characters from some medieval Švejk, so that in the end one of them actually utters a slightly modified Švejk statement. ... That was truly hell. For other actors and actresses, if they had played the same roles in a good movie, it could have been a top-notch thing. This was just a waste of talent.

Muž z Londýna (1974)

angielski A very weak satire, written and filmed to be as inoffensive as possible, and it certainly didn't deserve such a cast as this. The ace safe-breaker played by Jiří Sovák returns from London to find that, God knows why, his former colleagues in Czechoslovakia work and even go to night shifts, that cement is being stolen from buildings and that conditions here are different from what they portray "out there". And that everyone here is listening to “Láska bláznivá" by Karel Gott. Zdeněk Liška's music is fine, and occasionally there is a joke in the mud, but it is usually short-lived.

The Passage (1979)

angielski The more than 100% deranged SS man played by Malcolm McDowell is really something you don't see every day, except that he seemed to come from a completely different movie, and he, along with other strange characters and scenes, came together in The Passage via a huge coincidence. The whole thing is just such a strange, shapeless patchwork that I strongly disliked. Even Anthony Quinn didn't get the opportunity to do something special this time.

Třicet panen a Pythagoras (1973)

angielski Oh, those saving end credits! If I heard the Pythagorean song one more time, I would probably start to hate mathematics. Nevertheless, the film is enjoyable, Jiří Menzel is a comedian cynic in his own right, the girls are beautiful (Jaroslava Schallerová reminds me very much of Veronika Kubařová), Zdeněk Svěrák's dialogues (who doesn't say a single word himself) are suitably funny and there is nothing bad to say about the music by one of our geniuses, Angel Michajlov.

Zabójca (2007)

angielski A straightforward action flick that is about nothing more than shooting, kicking, punching, bleeding and dying for an hour and forty minutes, all performed by Jason Statham, Jet Li and dozens of future dead that these two gradually take down. It's not a deep film, it could have been shorter and less would-be surprising, but it's definitely watchable and the action scenes (there are not a lot, but in fact too many) are fine, thanks to the good music of the reliable Brian Tyler.

Star Warriors (2007)

angielski "What do you know about the Death Star plans?" - "I don't know anything." - "Speak or you'll lose your life." - "I don’t know shit." - "You can't say shit." - "Damn." A very good tribute to people who are costumed freaks to some, to others fans with all their hearts. Eternally boozy Belgians, Italians who look like they are from Texas, men, women, children... Although I can't imagine being one of them, I haven't seen a more interesting and funny documentary about people dedicated to one thing for a long time.

Co robimy w ukryciu (2014)

angielski A comedy from beyond the grave, which, however, respects almost every conceivable rule of the vampire genre and is all the better for it. Vampires don't like to wash dishes, they wipe dust by dragging lifeless bodies, they can't play musical instruments much, and they also snort quite terribly when they go out into society, but who wouldn't want to become one of them after the end credits? Perhaps only a flea-filled werewolf.

Bosque de sombras (2006)

angielski There is so much comparison with Scarecrow that I can calmly avoid my planned one and just praise the excellent atmosphere, which is mainly due to the nature, the camera and the seemingly calm pace ready to speed up at any time, and of course Gary Oldman. The ending of the film was very suggestive and at the same time thoughtful. That's how I like it.
