Sześć stóp pod ziemią (2001) (serial)

angielski A great series that was a perfect fusion of drama and black humor with a good dose of cynicism. I was very disappointed when I found out that the adverts appeared only in the first episode, they were brilliant. The plot of the first three seasons was truly captivating. I enjoyed the character development and wondered what kind of death would open the next episode. Seasons 4 and 5 seemed to drag a bit, but everything was saved by the finale. I worried that it would have an overly optimistic ending with an overdose of pathos, but it was excellent, which really made me happy.

Austin Powers - Agent specjalnej troski (1997)

angielski Austin Powers entertained me, Dr. Evil was perfect, and Mike Myers’s enthusiasm was incredibly infectious. There were a few weak moments, for which I couldn't give it five stars but, fortunately, there weren’t too many of them. A hilarious film that made me laugh a lot.

Billions (2016) (serial)

angielski The Big Short meets The Wolf of Wall Street. Unlike the said canine, this series didn’t bore me for a second, and not once did I struggle with microsleep. The cast was excellent, and I was drawn in by the story from the start. Thanks to having seen The Big Short a while back, I was surprisingly familiar with the world of finance, so the mention of shorting couldn’t throw me off. What's more - Metallica. I’m more than satisfied.

Rząd (2010) (serial)

angielski A Danish political drama, which I enjoyed a lot, but it made me wonder if Danish politics was too soft, or if the writers played it too safe.  Anyway, I completely immersed myself in this ten-hour marathon as I binge-watched the first season, and I wasn’t bored for a moment.

Ripper Street. Tajemnica Kuby Rozpruwacza - Season 4 (2016) (seria)

angielski After Season 4 I have to say that the atmosphere is a bit darker and the show has definitely moved from crime to mystery. Not that it's a bad thing, I like mysteries, so I'm still satisfied. I'm just curious to see how the fifth season will continue now that everyone is backed into a corner. I'm looking forward to the new developments. I like how everyone gradually gives in to the pressure of circumstances and is affected by the consequences of their own actions. Nothing is black and white; everyone is constantly moving in a kind of grey area.

Ripper Street. Tajemnica Kuby Rozpruwacza - Season 3 (2014) (seria)

angielski Some series get worse with each new season. Ripper Street, on the other hand, gets more and more entertaining. I've already praised the excellent theme and script in my previous reviews, which still holds true, but I forgot to mention the excellent soundtrack. Fortunately, the third season keeps going along the same lines as the second one. It continues to develop a strong story, unlike the slightly disjointed first season which I consider the weakest one of those I’ve seen so far, but still worth no less than five stars. The only disappointment of Season 3 was the somewhat ostentatious end of Mr. Best, which made me think of Platoon.

Ripper Street. Tajemnica Kuby Rozpruwacza - Season 2 (2013) (seria)

angielski The series seems to have even more momentum now than in the first season. Season 1 felt like eight individual episodes stitched together by a background story. The second season is more of a continuous story in which there are no separate cases. The plot is well constructed and perfectly escalates in the last two episodes. The grim atmosphere of Victorian London is captured so perfectly it made me feel as if I was drenched in all that mud. The character development was also handled very well.

Ripper Street. Tajemnica Kuby Rozpruwacza (2012) (serial)

angielski After watching the first season I'm definitely looking forward to the next one. A well-made crime series set in Victorian London with a depressing atmosphere of the slums, a good theme and script, and interesting characters. I assumed it would be a single case that would be solved throughout the whole season. Instead, each episode brings a new case, and the episodes are mainly linked by the characters' past. Original, imaginative, entertaining!

Broadchurch (2013) (serial)

angielski Barely average as a crime series, excellent as a psychological drama. I was struck by how incredibly tense the atmosphere was, built on the perfectly portrayed psychology of the characters. Plus, the investigative tandem was an interesting choice of actors. Especially David Tennant gives a convincing performance. For the most part, the series doesn’t play on the viewers’ emotions, only at the very end do things slightly get out of hand. At one point I worried that Sauron had decided to attack Minas Tirith again. I was pleasantly surprised by the second season. I was expecting more murders to be solved to compete with Midsomer Murders. Instead, the story is split into two plotlines. The first one deals with the trial of Danny's killer and the second finally explains what happened at Sandbrook. The second season seems to be handled better than the first. Plus, the character of Ellie Miller gets more screen time, which is definitely not a bad thing.

American Gothic (2016) (serial)

angielski I thought I was about to watch the usual hunt for a serial killer. Instead, I got to see a psychological crime drama with a great atmosphere and cool plot twists. I binge-watched it in two days, annoyed that I had to take a sleep break. The idea and the script are great, the cast is great, and the classical music adds to the incredibly dark atmosphere. I was absolutely thrilled!
